About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the Associate Vice President for Auxiliary and Business Services position in the Facilities Department is responsible for the strategic oversight of fiscally sound programs to ensure student success. The AVP will oversee the successful operation of the following: Public Safety, Facilities, Enterprise Project Management, Purchasing, Conference and Events, Mail Services, Shipping and Receiving, Transportation, Contract Management, and auxiliary services including Dining Services and the Bookstore. The AVP is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to establish short and long-range planning and for overseeing the following functional areas. With the Director of Facilities: Provide broad oversight for strategic planning. Facilities functions and services include: maintenance and deferred maintenance, housekeeping and custodial, grounds, facilities operations, and project management. Work with facilities management, university administration, and other stakeholders. Prepare project recommendations and requests for approvals. Ensure that projects conform to university standards and local and national building codes. With the Chief of Campus Police: Provide broad oversight for the Department ensuring the safety, security, and protection of persons and campus property. With the Director of Purchasing: Responsible for purchasing policies, contract negotiations, and inventory control; systematically review and evaluate relationships with vendors to ensure the university is working with the best pricing as well as quality products. With the Director of Campus and Conference Events: Provide broad oversight and leadership, coordination, development, planning, direction, and operational management for all aspects of campus conferences and events for both on-campus and external clients. Serve as Co-Chair of Commencement Committee. For Mail Services, Shipping and Receiving, Transportation and Fleet Management: Oversee the smooth business operations of these areas. For Contract Management: Responsible for the contracts and services under the management control of the AVP; assures compliance and approves payment for consultants, vendors, and contractors for completed work. For Dining Services and the Bookstore: Serve as liaison with the Dining Services and Bookstore vendors. The AVP will identify points of intersection that can lead to greater efficiency, improved process, reduced duplication, increased customer satisfaction, and enhanced quality. Develop and evaluate policies and procedures for the areas of responsibility and provide advice and input for other areas of the campus. Oversee the development of the annual budgets for areas of responsibility for review by the Vice President for Finance and Business/CFO. Ensure that business and financial operations are performed in accordance with federal and state laws and university policies, processes, and procedures.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in business or a related field, MBA preferred; minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Ability to positively interact with a diverse population and uphold the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence.
  • Experience with facilities management and planning, campus police regulations, and auxiliary services management.
  • A broad and sophisticated knowledge of a variety of auxiliary business models; a successful track record of managing complex capital planning, budget and financial systems; extensive knowledge of campus dining and auxiliary programs.
  • Significant experience developing RFP's, negotiating and managing contracts, and developing effective business relationships.
  • Effective skills in the development and delivery of presentations to various stakeholders.
  • A record of increasing responsibilities that includes directly managing multifaceted enterprises with successful outcomes is also required.
  • Strong project management capabilities; and exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards.
  • Strategic thinker with advanced technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage others through change.

  • Knowledge and understanding of issues facing higher education.

  • Provides for selection, training, and development of staff and recommends their compensation, promotion, transfer, or dismissal as appropriate in accordance with the University’s policies.
