The Associate Vice Dean (AVD) for Advancement at Penn Arts & Sciences will play a pivotal role in the leadership of the School's Advancement Office, reporting directly to the Vice Dean for Advancement. This position is integral to the strategic direction and execution of major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, and alumni engagement initiatives that support the School of Arts and Sciences. The AVD will lead a team of ten professional and administrative staff, providing guidance and support while maintaining a personal portfolio of principal and major gift prospects. The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader who effectively advocates for the value of liberal arts education to various stakeholders. In collaboration with the Vice Dean, Dean, and other senior leadership, the AVD will establish strategic goals for the School's advancement efforts, develop comprehensive annual plans, and set aspirational objectives for their direct reports. The role requires close coordination with the University's Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) division to enhance individual gift fundraising efforts and ensure alignment with the broader university campaign initiatives. The AVD will articulate the School's fundraising priorities and work closely with various departments to develop strategies that ensure the success of fundraising and alumni engagement goals. The AVD will also be responsible for building strong relationships within the SAS community, including alumni, faculty, staff, and volunteers. This involves maintaining an in-depth knowledge of SAS programs, key faculty, research, and notable alumni, serving as a resource and spokesperson for the SAS Advancement Office. The position requires the AVD to represent SAS on university-wide committees and support the Vice Dean in engaging with the SAS Board of Advisors. Additionally, the AVD will manage major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, and alumni engagement staff, implementing performance metrics and professional development strategies to encourage high performance within the team. The AVD will personally cultivate, solicit, and steward a select portfolio of high-level donors and prospects, achieving personal annual fundraising goals while enhancing volunteer engagement and identifying new donor opportunities.
