About The Position

An Associate will be integrally involved in all facets of Stifel’s Venture Banking Team’s operations – from portfolio management to deal underwriting to strategic organizational projects. This role intertwines an understanding of accounting and financial principals with an Associate’s desire to learn about sector and economic trends impacting the technology companies we work alongside. In joining our San Francisco team, an Associate’s role will focus heavily on understanding and contributing withing the active debt processes – structuring, underwriting, and presenting to our credit team.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, venture banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Interest in technology trends, key metrics, and capital markets impacting the innovation ecosystem.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build strong relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel software proficiency.
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, business, accounting, economics or related field required.
  • 2+ years of venture banking, commercial banking, investment banking, or private capital investing experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Involved in and eventually leading portfolio level analytics and reporting, including pipelines, portfolio tracking, board material development, and special projects with Group leads.
  • Focused on learning about various forms of debt and their applicability to businesses based on each company’s unique attributes.
  • Able to contribute within deal processes – from the collection and review of diligence materials to the underwriting and internal presentation of credit packages to legal documentation.
  • Involved in the monitoring of a portfolio of borrowers to ensure compliance with loan covenants and report status up to the leadership team.
  • Attend industry events, networking functions, and conferences to represent the firm and build professional networks.
