About The Position

The Associate University Librarian and Director of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library at Emory University is a senior-level management position responsible for providing vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the library. This role involves overseeing library services, policies, and programs, while ensuring alignment with the broader goals of Emory Libraries and the university's academic and healthcare missions. The director will manage a team of approximately 22 FTE employees and will actively participate in fundraising and development efforts.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science or a related field from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Significant experience in library administration and management, preferably in an academic health sciences library.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse team of professionals.
  • Strong understanding of current trends in health sciences, academic libraries, and information technology.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fundraising and development in a library context.
  • Familiarity with health sciences research and education.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices in library services.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Libraries' senior management group and collaborate on policy issues affecting all functional areas.
  • Coordinate implementation of the Libraries' goals within the WHSC Library and oversee specific initiatives and projects.
  • Provide vision and leadership in the administration of the WHSC Library in alignment with the Libraries' and Emory's educational and research mission.
  • Coach, mentor, and work with direct reports to build a high trust organizational culture.
  • Oversee WHSC Library budgets, personnel management, and space planning in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the University's teaching, learning, and research programs to anticipate faculty and student needs.
  • Represent the WHSC Library on campus and in various professional arenas related to initiatives, programs, and services.
  • Participate in the library program of fundraising and development in areas of collections and public services.
