About The Position

Our Underwriting team is looking for an Associate Underwriter to review and classify life applications for all factors affecting insurability up to a retention limit of $250,000. The underwriter has extensive contact with credit reporting agencies, doctors' offices, reinsurance companies, Home Office Reference Lab and agents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience

  • Complete ALU 101 in first 12 months after becoming Associate Underwriter, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review pending applications (new business, conversions, reinstatements, and changes to benefits) and make initial requests needed to evaluate the case.
  • Analyze medical information, inspection reports, MVR reports and other information, and classify the risk.
  • Communicate with the field force on questions regarding pending applications and underwriting decisions while using discretion when discussing privileged and confidential information.
  • Study underwriting material, articles, and books to keep informed.
  • Review and analyze cases from co-workers for second-initialing, and offer opinions and assistance.
  • Refer the case to a co-worker for second initialing when the request is above the retention limits, to be cancelled, to be declined, or to be rated.
  • Promote and enhance business relations between the agents and home office.
  • Contact doctors' offices, reinsurance companies, Home Office Reference Lab, and agents to follow-up on information not received.
  • Advise Medical Information Bureau of reportable information as required by MIB guidelines.
