The Associate Transportation Planner position is a critical role within the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), specifically under the Equity, Engagement, and Health (EEH) Branch. The incumbent will work under the general direction of a Senior Transportation Planner and will be responsible for leading various transportation planning projects that align with the principles of equity, engagement, and health. This position requires a high degree of independence and the ability to manage projects effectively, ensuring that all transportation planning functions incorporate these essential principles. In this role, the Associate Transportation Planner will serve as a subject matter expert, guiding the implementation and updating of the EEH Action Plan. The incumbent will also manage the Division of Transportation Planning's Health program, which focuses on embedding public health considerations into transportation planning processes. This includes implementing emerging practices in Health in All Policies, which is crucial for promoting community health through transportation initiatives. Additionally, the Associate Transportation Planner will assist in managing the statewide Planning Public Engagement Contract (PPEC), taking on responsibilities as a task order manager. Other duties may include developing guidance and training related to equity, engagement, and health, supporting the Caltrans Public Engagement System (CPES) Program Manager, and facilitating workshops and meetings. The role also involves preparing reports, conducting topical research, and coordinating with various offices and divisions within Caltrans. This position is essential for ensuring that transportation planning is inclusive and responsive to the needs of diverse communities.
