About The Position

The City of Minneapolis is seeking an Associate Transportation Planner to join the Transportation Planning and Programming Division of Public Works. This role involves assisting in various aspects of transportation planning for citywide and regional projects, with a focus on multimodal transportation. The ideal candidate will support planning activities, including the development, analysis, and implementation of transportation projects and initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Urban Studies, or a related field.
• Two years of related experience in transportation planning or a similar field.

Nice To Haves

• American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) certification.
• Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) certification.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of major planning initiatives, including the Minneapolis Transportation Action Plan and Vision Zero Action Plan.
• Perform analytical and technical duties related to transportation programs including bicycle, pedestrian, transit, and transportation systems management.
• Respond to requests for information from the public and City staff, researching and making recommendations to resolve inquiries.
• Monitor and coordinate ongoing operations of assigned program areas, maintaining documentation and supporting records.
• Support the development of project-based concept level designs and layouts.
• Participate in, coordinate, and host public and stakeholder meetings.
• Prepare, edit, format, and produce technical reports and displays.
• Provide expertise in transportation planning and coordinate across divisions and agencies to advance projects.
• Prepare or assist in preparing transportation-related frameworks for planning activities.
• Complete other assigned projects as needed.
