The Technology Associate at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation and operation of technology-assisted instruction. This position involves assisting students, teachers, staff, and parents with technology-related issues, ensuring the effective use of educational technology resources, and maintaining compliance with relevant policies and procedures. The associate will work under the supervision of the principal and is responsible for various technical support tasks, including managing student devices and facilitating technology programs within the school.

  • Assist staff with submitting helpdesk tickets and follow up as needed.
  • Provide basic technical support to existing school computers, tablets, network, AV equipment, student and staff devices, and printers/copiers.
  • Issue, distribute, manage, verify, and collect student devices each school year.
  • Work with teachers and technology staff in the selection of resources compatible with the school technology infrastructure.
  • Assist with the implementation of computer-assisted instructional programs.
  • Monitor and assist students and teachers in the use of computers.
  • Assist teachers with the presentation of learning materials and instructional activities.
  • Adhere to and communicate copyright and other laws pertaining to the distribution and ethical use of resources.
  • Inspect computer equipment regularly; perform minor repairs on equipment if needed; arrange for major repairs on equipment.
  • Facilitate school participation in technology programs and activities.
  • Collaborate with the school library media coordinator to enhance learning through instructional technology resources.
  • Serve as point of contact for communications between Technology Services and the school.
  • Enforce the Internet Acceptable Use Policy, Photo and Video Release Form, and Student Technology Agreement for staff and students.
  • Share, distribute, and collect the CMS Student Technology Agreement each school year.
  • Oversee assessment and collection of technology fees from applicable students and manage the technology fee waiver process as needed.
  • Review, update, and maintain accurate device inventory.
  • Manage damaged technology transfer to and from repair depot.
  • Prepare aging, unsupported, and damaged school or classroom technology for surplus pickup.
  • Attend professional development, professional learning communities, and other meetings.
  • Associate degree in education, technology, or a related field required.
  • Knowledge of public-school system policies and technology programs.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to school system technology.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and carry out duties efficiently within established timeframes.
  • Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and employ positive communication skills in all settings.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technology-related problems.
  • Experience in a public-school environment.
  • Familiarity with educational technology tools and software.
