We are seeking an Associate Technician in the Expert Singleton Purification (ESP) group in Groton, CT. within Medicine Design. ESP is responsible for the analytical screening and purification of mid to large scale reactions. Experimentalists in ESP engage in many facets of analytical chemistry development from early-stage compound synthesis and route scouting to late-stage deliveries for toxicology studies and beyond. The successful candidate will generate experimental data in the laboratory with the team, perform various tasks necessary for the development and evaluation of analytical methods. As part of technical operations, you will be a team member who is relied upon to have a good understanding of procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment. Your decision-making will help you prioritize workflows based on the available resources. You will follow standard procedures to complete tasks, some of which may vary in scope, sequence, complexity, and timing.

Requirements

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent with either: Additional field related education (see preferred qualifications) with 0-2 years' experience OR 1-3 years of experience in chemistry laboratory roles or API (active pharmaceutical ingredients) Manufacturing operations with some experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the ability to maintain an accurate scientific notebook.
  • Familiarity with modern analytical tools and techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Process Technology or Biotechnology Certificate, or an A.S. in Chemistry or related scientific field.
  • Proficiency in using various computer applications including Word, Excel, Chem Draw.

Responsibilities

  • Proper handling of chemicals commonly used in analytical chemistry labs (acids, bases, organic solvents, non-reactive gases).
  • Manage own time, professional development, meets established timelines for deliverables and takes accountable for own results.
  • Execute experiment designs provided by scientists semi-independently.
  • Operate, maintain, and clean equipment designed for analysis (Waters/Agilent /Shimadzu UPLC-MS, SFC-MS).
  • Actively maintain inventory levels of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and solvents to ensure continuous process workflows.
  • Document conditions and amounts used during experiment executions within an electronic lab notebook (Signals).
  • Troubleshoot various issues that arise when using common lab equipment.
  • Maintain general understanding of lab safety associated with handling of peroxide forming chemicals and other hazardous chemical compounds.
  • Software knowledge associated with operating laboratory equipment.
  • Ensures work areas are kept stocked, cleaned, and orderly.
