About The Position

We are designing the Grid of the future EPE is looking to recruit an Associate Technical Director with a background in Interconnection or Transmission Planning studies, preferably in the ISO New England and NYISO territories in the Northeast. In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
  • Experience in IBR modelling, transmission planning and/or interconnection studies.
  • Active participation and leadership in industry taskforces and/or working groups.
  • Strong understanding of FERC, NERC and ISO interconnection requirements and standards.
  • Deep expertise in the Eastern Interconnect; NYISO or ISO New England highly preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one but preferably several of the following software packages: PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld. ASPEN and PSCAD
  • Strong written and verbal communication and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience in managing and mentoring technical teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience working at ISO New England, NYISO, a utility in their footprint or on behalf of these entities as a consultant.
  • Experience with large load interconnection studies.
  • Experience with DER interconnection or studies.
  • Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL)

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and advise internal/external stakeholders on complex interconnection studies including loadflow, short circuit and transient stability across multiple ISOs and Utilities in the Eastern Interconnect.
  • Possess strong collaboration skills, ability to pull together diverse teams across the organization to provide the best experience for the client
  • Review ISO and/or Utility interconnection study results, replicate findings and identify errors or alternative mitigations that could impact assigned network upgrades and project success.
  • Support generation, large load and merchant transmission developers navigate interconnection processes with a focus on ISO New England and NYISO but broadly across all of the Eastern Interconnect.
  • Work with senior leadership to develop new tools and services
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on interconnection related studies and stay up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes.
  • Passionate about solving difficult technical problems, providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the solutions provided.
  • Develop net new and enhance existing relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support responses to RFPs, DOE grants and development of Scopes of Work.
  • Participate and coordinate industry involvement through conferences, speaking opportunities, technical paper submissions, etc.
