About The Position

This position assists in the teaching and care of students at the Child and Family Development Center.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of current early childhood education methodologies and pedagogies.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development principles.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of learner assessment principles.
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • An associate degree in early childhood education or related fields, such as child development, psychology, sociology, or education or 5 years’ experience in an Early Childhood Education Program.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • The employee must be in a state of physical and emotional health suitable for participation in an early education program.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Develops and maintains a healthy, safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Assists in the supervision and assessment of practicum students, student employees, and service learning students.
  • Prepares, schedules and participates in parent/teacher conferences.
  • Gathers, compiles and reviews portfolio samples to assess student progress within New Mexico Early Learning Guidelines.
  • Models best teaching practices for students.
  • Participates in Child Assistance Team meetings.
  • Communicates and meets with parents of Center students.
  • Refers students to external service providers as appropriate.
  • Attends required training to maintain state certification standards.
  • Performs related duties.
