Tax Controversy Associates provide advice, guidance, and representation with respect to practice and procedure matters, as well as audits and appeals, with the IRS and other domestic tax authorities for a variety of clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to venture backed startups, pass through entities and high net worth individuals.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree;
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0;
  • Strong leadership, multitasking and organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an atural facilitator;
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; and
  • Familiarity with MS excel
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis upon hire. Andersen will not consider candidates for this position who require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., H-1B status).

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients through all stages of audits and appeals with the IRS and other domestic tax authorities;
  • Assist clients in resolving all practice and procedure matters with the IRS and other domestic tax authorities;
  • Conduct research and analysis on federal, state, and international tax issues, and draft legal memoranda, protest letters, and other deliverables;
  • Advise internal tax compliance professionals at all levels on risk mitigation strategies and methods to avoid tax controversies in connection with tax planning and consulting engagements;
  • Analyze technical IRS account transcripts to identify issues and exposure and advise internal tax compliance teams and clients through unique IRS account monitoring software;
  • Coordinate communication, timelines, and deliverables for complex federal tax issues among internal tax compliance teams, tax authority representatives, and clients;
  • Execute administrative appeals, internal escalations, and referrals to the Taxpayer Advocate Service to bring resolution to complex federal tax matters with the IRS;
  • Communicate directly with tax authority agents and officers through examination, appeals, collections, and accounts management functions to resolve outstanding issues.
