About The Position

Design of Single story and/or multi-story Structural steel, Reinforced Masonry, and/or Reinforced Concrete Buildings. Foundation design can range from spread footings to pile supported. Various types of retaining wall designs may be required. Design of various types of façade systems may be required ranging from pre-cast panels, curtain walls, to steel and glass. Some facilities will be Risk Category V facilities requiring seismic bracing of non-structural components, seismic modal analysis, in-structure response spectra and including progressive collapse analysis for three stories and higher. Project work may involve various types of facilities such as power plants, microgrids, command centers, pump stations, fuel loading and unloading, hangars, warehouses, barracks, Civil Works facilities, etc. The Black & Veatch Federal Business is grounded in history and engineering the future. Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline

  • Knowledge of USACE requirements, specifications, and design processes including UFC 1-200-01, UFC 3-301-01, UFC 3-301-02, UFC 4-010-01, UFC 3-340-02, UFC 4-023-03, and UFC 4-010-01
  • Master of Science degree in an ABET-accredited program of Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS and/or SAP2000 experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of REVIT Structural, AutoCad, RISA-3D, RISAFloor, RISAFoundation, RISAConnection, RISA REVIT Link, MathCad, SAP2000, ENERCALC , and/or Etabs.
  • Knowledge of precast, post tensioned, deep foundations, structural dynamic analysis, ATFP (Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection), renovations, high seismic analysis/design, and mission critical facilities.
  • Non-Technical: Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Intellectual Horsepower, Written Communications, Drive for Results, Informing, Listening, and Dealing with Ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures. Applies to assigned tasks as appropriate.
  • Continues developing and can independently apply knowledge. Complies with B&V quality program relative to assigned tasks. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Prepares a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables. Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work. Prepares increasingly complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. May recognize, define and resolve problems within assigned area. May provide direction and guidance to others.
  • Assigns tasks to develop entry level professionals and interns. Coordinates with project leadership and other internal/external team members on less complex projects. Interacts as needed with other disciplines on details of design work.
  • Works to understand external client's interest and drivers through regular interaction and communication. Also focuses on needs of internal clients and project leadership. May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
  • Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes.
  • As skills develop, may assist with performance management process, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Actively mentors entry level professionals and interns.
