About The Position

Based in Downtown Los Angeles, Oaktree is seeking an associate to work within the Strategic Credit Group for a 2-year program. This is a sector generalist role with the potential for specialization in the future. The Strategic Credit mandate is highly flexible and, as such, the role will require analysis of a variety of asset classes including, but not limited to, secured debt and equity-linked securities. The Associate will participate in all transaction functions and portfolio management activities:

Requirements

2-3 years of experience as an analyst with a top investment bank within merchant banking or leveraged finance.
Outstanding financial modeling and analytical skills.
Demonstrated competency in financial statement analysis, business valuation, accounting and finance.
A Bachelor’s degree with honors from a top university or college is required.
Must have outstanding initiative and be a self-starter
Demonstrate non-linear thinking and have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing tasks
Collaborative, team-oriented, intellectually curious individual with strong sense of integrity and professionalism

Experience analyzing fixed income a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

Analyzing company financial statements
Developing detailed financial models with projections
Assessing company capital structures and reviewing related legal documents
Analyzing company valuations using various macroeconomic and business specific assumptions
Conducting interviews with industry experts and company management
Performing qualitative business and industry due diligence
Assessing strengths and weaknesses of various businesses
Performing comparable company analyses
Developing comprehensive investment thesis and memos
Presenting investment ideas to portfolio management
Participating in deal structuring, legal documentation and negotiations
Monitoring the performance of existing portfolio investments.
