About The Position

The New York Times is hiring an Associate Software Engineer for the Scoop Core team, which builds and maintains the central content platform used across the organization. The team develops modern, collaborative editing and publishing tools. They support rapid and safe evolution of content schemas. The team works with technologies including GraphQL, Go, PostgreSQL, and AWS. Additionally, they support legacy publishing systems on GCP. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, Scoop Core.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with relational (like SQL/MySQL, PostgreSQL) databases
  • Familiarity with the development process, including methodologies like Agile and Scrum
  • Experience with unit and integration testing
  • Familiarity building backend systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Golang, GraphQL and tooling
  • Experience in deployments and services on cloud platforms
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container and deployment orchestration

Responsibilities

  • You will handle multiple technical tasks, including programming, working with cloud services, platforms, and APIs.
  • You will write unit/integration tests, create documentation, and help maintain legacy systems.
  • Support other teams onboarding to the platform and provide technical guidance.
  • Collaborate through pairing, design reviews, code reviews, and cross-team partnerships.
