Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher, and
  • A current teaching certification in the language you are applying for AND are currently teaching or have taught in schools (public or private) within the last three years (including regular substitute)
  • OR are or have been educators from colleges and universities who hold a degree in a content-relevant field and/or have taught or advised in a content-relevant field within the last three years.
  • OR is a native or fluent speaker of the language (read, write, and speak) and holds a college degree
  • Both active and recently retired practitioners can be eligible to score.
  • Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse)
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate responses to test questions by Illinois and New York teacher candidates
  • Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
  • Recognize and discuss various types of bias (e.g., implicit bias, cultural bias, leniency bias, central tendency bias, halo effect) and effect strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring
