About The Position

Spear Bio, founded in 2021, is a well-funded and rapidly growing start-up headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts. Our proprietary technology, Successive Proximity Extension Amplification Reaction (SPEAR), is a novel wash-free immunoassay platform, offering unprecedented sensitivity. We are dedicated to revolutionizing early disease diagnosis and monitoring by providing scalable, ultrasensitive solutions that deliver unparalleled accuracy in measuring low-abundant biomarkers, enabling clinicians and researchers to improve patient outcomes and advance global health. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate Scientist/Senior Associate Scientist to join our Assay Development team, with hands-on experience in developing and validating ultrasensitive immunoassays. The ideal candidate will support the full lifecycle of assay development, from initial concept and research to validation and assay transfer. This individual will play a pivotal role in advancing Spear Bio’s new range of ultrasensitive immunoassays and assay biomarker programs. This role is based onsite in our lab in Woburn, MA 5 days/week.

Requirements

  • BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline plus minimum of 2-3+ years in an academic or industry lab; or MS degree plus 1-2+ years of academic/industry lab experience.
  • Direct experience running immunoassays is required for consideration.
  • Hands-on experience utilizing ultrasensitive platforms like Simoa, MSD, Lumipulse, and/or homebrew platforms for novel immunoassay development preferred.
  • Previous experience with customer assay development is a plus.
  • Experience characterizing and troubleshooting immunoassays.
  • Strong proficiency in molecular biology lab techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize ultrasensitive immunoassays to support Spear Bio’s product pipeline.
  • Execute immunoassay workflows with a focus on high-throughput and semi-automated platforms.
  • Perform comprehensive troubleshooting to resolve technical challenges and improve assay performance.
  • Optimize methods for processing different types of clinical samples for assay development.
  • May serve as a technical lead for custom assay development projects and working directly with customers.
