Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Electron Microscopy-based Polyclonal Epitope Mapping Research Fellow in the Analytical Research & Development Department Be a part of the legacy: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program Our Research Laboratories' Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery. Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join the Analytical Research & Development Department, in a collaboration with the Protein structural Chemistry Department at our company. The successful candidate will initiate an independent research project focused on developing and applying the innovative approach of polyclonal epitope mapping. The goal of this work is to deepen our understanding of mechanisms underlying immune protection and vaccine efficacy. This position offers broad opportunities for collaborations across our company, ranging from antigen/antibody characterization and preparation to structural elucidation, and polyclonal epitope mapping. The research will contribute to advancing vaccine understanding and data-driven decision-making in vaccine design. The expectation is that this work will enhance the current knowledge of how an immune system interacts with a vaccine antigen to elicit protection, enabling rational vaccine optimization. This approach is aimed to ultimately impact our company's pipeline of vaccine development, as well as the scientific community by yielding publications in high-tier scientific journals.

  • Design, planning, and preparation of antigen/antibody constructs to enable structural determination.
  • Purification of polyclonal antibodies or Fabs from sera and optimize complex formation for structural studies
  • Prepare and optimize and cryo-EM grids and perform data collection and processing to elucidate the polyclonal antibody response.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to design and execute the experiments, analyze results and interpret data.
  • Clearly communicate results with colleagues and the external scientific community through presentations and publications in leading peer-reviewed journals.
  • Candidates must currently hold a PhD or Ph.D. completed within 6 months of hire in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Structural biology, Physics, Material Science, Pharmaceutical Science or related discipline.
  • Candidates must have significant experience in protein structural determination, preferably using cryo-EM single particle analysis, including sample preparation, data collection, and data processing.
  • Proficiency in structural modeling, 3D reconstructions, and map fitting using tools such as RELION, CryoSPARC, or ChimeraX
  • Motivated to solve complex problems by undertaking innovative approaches and applying state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Candidates should have experience in polyclonal epitope mapping (Electron Microscopy-based Polyclonal Epitope Mapping, EMPEM). This should include knowledge of complex and innovative data processing approaches including sub-particle analysis.
  • Candidates should have a deep understanding of immunology, virology, and/or bacteriology, and capable of making contributions to advance these fields.
  • Familiarity with biophysical and biochemical characterization techniques such as size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), biolayer interferometry (BLI), or analytical ultracentrifugation.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with peers within and across departments
  • Effective organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience training and mentoring junior scientist postdoctoralopportunities
  • bonus eligibility
  • health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family)
  • retirement benefits
  • paid holidays
  • vacation
  • sick days
