About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join our Rheumatology team at the ABC Worcester, MA location. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing a range of in vitro and in vivo experiments, including cell culture, plate-based assays, and studies involving acute and chronic models of rheumatological mechanisms and diseases. This role requires the analysis, interpretation, communication, and presentation of high-quality, reproducible data sets to support multiple programs across the rheumatology portfolio. The ideal candidate will maintain a high level of proficiency in the laboratory, work effectively in a cross-functional environment, and apply both theoretical and practical knowledge to core scientific research principles. Additionally, they will foster a positive learning attitude and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent education, with typically 3 or more years’ experience or Master’s Degree or equivalent education (no additional experience).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the capability to explain complex scientific ideas clearly and encourage collaborative dialogue.
  • Competence with Microsoft Word programs including PowerPoint and Excel, and graphing programs and software.
  • Experience with multicolor flow cytometry, cytometer operations and acquisition (BD FACS Canto, Fortessa, Cytek Aurora), and analysis software (FlowJo).
  • Ability to work cross functionally in a matrixed environment to support key stakeholders.
  • Organized and effective at time and resource management.
  • Able to prioritize appropriately and execute multiple workflows simultaneously.
  • Proactive and adaptable learner who will actively contribute to a team-oriented culture of collaboration and shared purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and analyze precise, reliable, and reproducible data.
  • Interpret data and communicate in a timely manner under the direction of the Scientist or Senior Scientist.
  • Able to follow established experimental protocols and effectively troubleshoot when problems arise.
  • Recognize, report, and critique variances or deviations.
  • Learn and understand new experimental techniques.
  • Experience with traditional in vitro and plate-based experimentation (ELISAs, MSD, Luminex platforms).
  • Proficiency in cell culture techniques including maintenance, passage, and storage of cell lines and primary cell cultures.
  • In vivo experience with background in rodent husbandry and technical skills highly preferred (dosing various routes of administration, animal handling and scoring, and necropsy techniques).
  • Maintain equipment and manage supplies to ensure efficient lab operations.
  • Review scientific literature for insights that aid experimental design and contribute ideas.
  • Maintain an accurate and current electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of animals, materials, and controlled and radioactive drug substances.
