About The Position
The Associate Scientist II in Engineering at AbbVie plays a crucial role in supporting the development and commercialization of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and natural products. This position is integral to ensuring that processes are safe and effective, addressing scale-up challenges, and developing robust API process steps that transition from laboratory settings to manufacturing environments. The engineer will be responsible for late-stage process development, focusing on key unit operations such as reactions and crystallizations, while assessing their robustness, scientific understanding, and potential risks associated with scaling up these processes. In this role, the engineer will leverage core chemical engineering principles, including chemical kinetics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, and mathematical modeling, to design experiments and analyze data effectively. The position requires a high level of scientific initiative and creativity, as the engineer will be expected to exhibit productive performance in laboratory experimentation, pilot plant operations, and manufacturing support. The ability to formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data is essential. Collaboration is key in this role, as effective cross-functional interactions with technical, quality, regulatory teams, and on-site manufacturing personnel are vital for successful job performance. The engineer will also be responsible for adhering to corporate standards regarding safety, material handling, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.
