Weston is seeking an Associate Scientist 3 for EPA Region 6 to support investigations and remediation of hazardous waste sites to protect public health and the environment.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Science or Engineering
  • 3–10 years of experience in environmental investigations
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs (equipment, PPE)
  • Valid U.S. work eligibility and driver’s license
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical report writing
  • Experience with PPE and monitoring instruments (air, water)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ICS structure (preferred)
  • Experience leading site investigations involving hazardous substances
  • Cost estimating and client interaction experience
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER (or refresher)
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Experience preparing health & safety plans, sampling plans, and QAPPs/UFP-QAPPs
  • Oversight of subcontractors and data review (analytical, monitoring)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support field projects, including environmental sampling (soil, water, waste, air) and site investigations
  • Perform chemical/physical screening, ship samples for lab analysis, and evaluate results
  • Prepare investigation and removal action reports
  • Participate in on-call emergency response (1 week/month), including rapid mobilization
  • Travel to remote locations for field work (up to 2 weeks, short notice possible)
  • Maintain and calibrate sampling equipment; document field activities and submit daily EPA reports
  • Use PPE (OSHA Level D-A) for hazardous site entries
  • Manage data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Coordinate with specialists and subcontractors to meet project goals
  • Deliver quality samples and reports within budget and schedule
