About The Position

Purpose of Position: This class of position may encompass supervisory, administrative and clinical activity with varying degrees of latitude for independent judgment involving day-to-day supervision of an operating segment of the Respiratory Therapy Department in the delivery of respiratory therapy services. May perform respiratory therapy procedures as required. All personnel perform related work. Examples of Typical Tasks: Under medical and technical direction of a duly licensed Physician, with moderate latitude for independent initiative and judgment, performs the following functions and activities:

Requirements

  • Graduation from an Associate Degree program in Respiratory Therapy approved by the New York State Board of Education or a program determined equivalent in accordance with the Commissioner of the State Board of Education's regulations; and,
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of New York; and,
  • Possession of current registration as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies quality assurance issues and ensures adherence to established protocols and standards of care.
  • Provides in-service training related to the delivery of respiratory therapy services.
  • May participate in research activities related to respiratory care.
  • Participates in product evaluations.
  • Provides clinical supervision in specialty care areas as assigned.
