Position Summary: The Associate Quality Engineer is an integral team member of the RRPS Mankato value stream, pivotal to ensuring product quality through data analysis and production quality control. This critical role is responsible for resolving issues, assuring new product quality, and supporting continuous improvement to uphold strict compliance standards.

Requirements

• ABET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Quality engineering; or 4 years of experience in a QA or QC role.
• Ability to work flexible hours or shifts and adapt to various work environments.

Nice To Haves

• Evaluation and application of common statistical data analysis techniques and tools for decision making, including statistical process control (SPC) and the associated Shewhart rules, process capability analysis, statistical sample size & power planning, design of experiments (DoE), probability analysis, structured root cause analysis (5-Whys, fault tree analysis, fishbone analysis) and A3 / 8D based structured-problem solving, and internal (NCP) and external (SCAR) non-conforming material management.
• Analysis of common key performance indicators for production quality, cost, and on-time delivery, advanced product quality planning (APQP), production part approval process (PPAP), quality control plans with acceptable quality levels (AQL) and first article inspection with appropriate metrology (including MSA & GR&R), and risk mitigation tactics such as failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
• Strong written & verbal communication & interpersonal teamwork skills, with the ability to interface effectively at all levels of the organization and with external customers with open candor, integrity, and professionalism.
• Demonstrated intrinsic drive for high quality, dependability, and reliability. A lifelong learner.
• Basic knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing and associated capable measurement techniques.
• Proficient with PC and Microsoft 365 Professional suite.
• Familiar with manufacturing plant operations & equipment.
• Working knowledge of gauge and test equipment.
• Knowledge of MTU components and products, including internal combustion engine performance requirements.
• Evaluation of statistics using Minitab or SAS JMP.
• Understanding of lean principles and value stream management with customer identification & segmentation, The Toyota Way, CREO / PTC Windchill, and SAP.

Responsibilities

• Quality Data Analysis: Support the analysis of production quality & product warranty data for the Mankato value stream, including separating normal vs. special cause variation in trends to proactively identify & resolve systemic issues / concerns / quality detractors. Keep Mankato value stream management abreast of progress, developments, and pending problems.
• Production Quality Control: Direct support of the Mankato value stream with accurate and timely determination of assignable causes and validated corrective actions for escalated production quality (line call) and customer quality (site call) issues, leveraging established processes for internal (quality notifications; q-note) & external supply chain (SCAR) issue resolution and quality control evolution. Provide direct support to the Mankato production team for initial quality issue definition and authoring q-notes. Timely execution of the final audit protocol, signing off on products before shipment.
• Personal & Product Compliance: Maintain awareness of specifications, regulations, and industry standards that affect the quality of the Mankato value stream’s products. Procure gauged and measuring equipment for quality control initiatives. Perform machine and gauge capability studies. Promote a compliance culture and live the letter & spirit of the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct. Lead or support special projects as required.
