We welcome applicants who can bridge American literary studies with one or more of the following areas of study: African American Literature, Indigenous Literature, African Diaspora Literatures of the Americas, Afro-futurism and science/speculative fiction, environmental literature, Black theatre and popular cultures. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated track record of excellence in research, teaching and service. Successful candidates are expected to develop extramurally funded research programs in their areas of expertise, actively participate in the Department's teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented students is highly desired. The Department of English currently consists of 22 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, conducting research with specializations in African, African American, American, British and Caribbean and comparative literatures and critical theory. It offers BA and PhD degrees in these areas and is developing an M.F.A. in Creative Writing
