About The Position

The University of Arizona's (UofA) College of Medicine - Tucson (COM-T) seeks a dynamic, nationally recognized leader to serve as the next Chief of the Division of General Surgery. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery, the Chief will work collaboratively with leaders of COM-T and Banner - University Medicine to advance excellence in clinical care, education, and team-based research while positioning the Division for continued growth and innovation. The Division of General Surgery is integral to the institution's mission, with strong opportunities for collaboration across surgical oncology, trauma, critical care, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. The Chief will play a key role in strengthening these partnerships and expanding multidisciplinary programs that rely on general surgery expertise. Requirements

  • Be eligible for the rank of Associate or full Professor
  • Hold an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent medical degree.
  • Be eligible for medical licensure in Arizona.
  • Outstanding academic leader with a national/international reputation as an accomplished clinician, investigator, and educator.
  • Proven, substantial, and progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center.
  • Demonstrated research experience and interest
  • Track record of building relationships with community-based providers and working in complex systems.
  • Ability to engage faculty, mentor the careers of others, and collaborate within a complex health care system.

Nice To Haves

  • Surgeons with clinical expertise in colorectal surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, or minimally invasive surgery are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the growth of the division.
  • Set a clear vision and execute on this vision.
  • Advance the division through multidisciplinary clinical care, advanced and innovative surgical services, research, education, and service.
  • Inspire, develop, and lead an accomplished team of faculty and mentor trainees, drive the development of clinical programs, and create accountability in the division.
  • Exhibit leadership and consensus-building within and beyond the division.
  • Strategically recruit and retain talented faculty to support clinical growth, expand the division's research footprint, improve the national reputation of plastic surgery at U of A and Banner University Medicine, and ensure excellence in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Provide clinical services and mentor trainees at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson and Banner - University Medical Center South.
