About The Position

The College of Arts, Sciences, and Education invites qualified candidates to apply for the Associate or Full Professor and Division Chair position in the Science and Mathematics Division. This position is a 12-month, tenured appointment in which tenure on arrival will be granted pending approval from the Texas A&M University System. The Division Chair serves as both an academic administrator and faculty member, providing leadership and management to the division consistent with the university’s mission and goals. Chairs maintain an active teaching, research, and service role at a level appropriate to the scope of the position. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Chemistry, Biology, Math, Physics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative leadership and fostering a collegial, supportive, and student-centered academic environment.
  • Track record of excellence in teaching various courses in the candidate’s discipline.
  • Evidence of an active, ongoing research agenda.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of state and federal guidelines as they pertain to higher education.
  • Qualifications that meet expectations for tenure and rank at TAMUT.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in higher education.
  • A minimum of 1 year as a division/department chair.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the chief academic officer of the division.
  • Administer the division and report to the Dean of the College.
  • Maintain an active teaching, research, and service role.
  • Supervise faculty in the Division and evaluate their performance.
  • Support and oversee the development of Division faculty and staff.
  • Recruit, appoint, and supervise division staff and student assistants.
  • Manage budgets and allocate funds appropriately.
  • Lead strategic planning and development of the academic division.
  • Ensure compliance with College, University, System, and State regulations.
  • Guide curriculum development and revisions for the division.
  • Conduct divisional assessment efforts and improve retention/graduation rates.
  • Represent the Division at formal functions and public relations efforts.
