About The Position

The Department of Computer Science at Mississippi College, a distinguished small private Christian university, seeks an experienced, visionary leader for a tenure-track position as Associate/Professor and Chair starting in August 2026. As one of the oldest computer science degree-granting departments in the state of Mississippi and recognized as a top computer science program in the Southeast, we are committed to academic excellence grounded in Christian values.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Academic credentials commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Highly qualified senior Assistant Professors will also be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor rank.
  • Strong Christian commitment and alignment with the college's mission and values
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous administrative experience in higher education
  • Experience in new program development
  • Background in data science, machine learning or artificial intelligence
  • Ability to teach across the computer science curriculum

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for department growth and innovation
  • Collaborate with departmental faculty and cross-campus colleagues to develop cutting-edge programs, including the planned Data Science degree and certificate programs
  • Manage departmental operations, budget, and resources effectively
  • Foster a collegial environment that integrates academic excellence with Christian principles
  • Lead faculty development, recruitment, and retention initiatives
  • Oversee program assessment and continuous improvement efforts
  • Teach 9 credit hours per semester across undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Develop and deliver courses for the university's expanding online program
  • Maintain regular office hours for comprehensive student counseling and academic support
  • Mentor and serve as an academic advisor to departmental students.
  • Integrate faith and learning in pedagogical approaches
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student theses, projects, and research initiatives
  • Serve on thesis and project committees
  • Maintain active scholarly engagement through research, professional development, and industry connections
  • Support and mentor faculty in their scholarly pursuits
  • Promote undergraduate and graduate student research opportunities
  • Participate actively in departmental and campus-wide committees
  • Engage with professional organizations and industry partners
  • Contribute to the broader computer science education community
  • Participate actively in departmental professional organizations
  • Support the university's mission and Christian identity through service
