About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Associate Professor or Professor/Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs (Tenured or Tenure Track) within the School of Nursing. Primary responsibilities of an academic faculty appointment are to (1) teach nursing courses consistent with area of expertise; (2) collaborate with other faculty in course development; (3) use teaching resources, such as WebCampus/Canvas to foster learning; (4) provide student supervision; (5) participate in school, university, professional and community service activities; and, for tenure/tenure-track (6) engage in research leading to publications in quality, refereed journals; and (7) seek internal and external grant funds. Classes in the School of Nursing are offered year-round, using a trimester sequence. Primary responsibilities as the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs: The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (ADFA) provides strategic leadership for faculty recruitment, development, support, and evaluation within the UNLV School of Nursing (SON). Reporting directly to the Dean, the ADFA plays a central role in cultivating a thriving academic community that advances the School’s mission, strategic priorities, and commitment to excellence. This position fosters faculty success across all career stages, ensures equitable workload distribution, and strengthens the culture of mentorship, collaboration, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Doctorate in nursing from an accredited College or university.
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a Nevada RN license.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, preferably in nursing or health sciences.
  • Experience with faculty development, mentoring, evaluation, and workload management.
  • Record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Evidence of effective collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Record of extensive scholarly achievement (e.g., publications, grant funding as PI).
  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation of initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the SON Travel Fund and other related resources.
  • Lead orientation programs for new faculty and part-time instructors.
  • Hire, orient, and evaluate faculty and part-time instructors.
  • Conduct faculty evaluations in partnership with the other Associate Deans and the Dean.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify faculty position needs.
  • Oversee faculty offboarding.
  • Develop and oversee faculty workload and teaching assignments.
  • Establish course schedules for undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Identify and address faculty resource needs.
  • Share and discuss course evaluation data each trimester.
  • Support a culture of accountability, innovation, and academic excellence.
  • Represent the SON at university, state, regional, and national levels.
