About The Position

The Lewis Center for the Arts is hiring an Associate Production Manager (APM) to oversees production related activities within the Lewis Center, Program in Theater, and Program in Dance. The Lewis Center for the Arts is an academic unit serving multiple artistic disciplines. Reporting to the Director of Production, this new position serves as the Associate Production Manager for all shows and events in the 150- seat Wallace Theater, 100-seat Hearst Dance Theater, and the Drapkin Theater Studio. The theater and dance season at the Lewis Center for the Arts is centered on student work and the APM will work closely with students as well as with faculty and staff on all performing art productions in the Lewis Arts Complex. This includes scheduling and running production meetings, attending technical and dress rehearsals on nights and weekends throughout the season, and helping prioritize the educational focus of the production activities. In collaboration with the Director of Production and the Production Stage Managers, the APM schedules all of the spaces in the Lewis Arts complex. As an intergral member of the production staff, they work with the Scene Shop, Costume Shop, Lighting and Stage Supervisor and Sound Supervisor on budgeting for and hiring casual overhire and assist the Director of Production with various administrative duties including processing payments for guest artists and designers. The position also works closely with the Venue Staff on front-of-house and maintenance needs well as with production and artistic staff across the University on collaborative and interdepartmental projects.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3 -5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience managing productions in an academic or professional environment.
  • Excellent management and communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Proficiency with Google Drive etc, MS word and excel

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience and at least a basic understanding of all theater operations including:
  • Lighting systems, LED and moving lights, ETC systems and control
  • Audio and video systems
  • Stage Management
  • Drafting
  • Theatrical design and building practices
  • Experience with festivals, rotating repertory
  • Working knowledgeof ArtsVision is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Associate Production Manager for 20 - 25 events annually. Including all events and productions in the Wallace Theater, Hearst Theater and Drapkin Theater Studio, as well as other spaces in the Lewis Arts complex.
  • Communicate scope clearly to student and professional design teams and share information about our theaters.
  • Maintain production budgets.
  • Schedule and run production meetings.
  • If needed, draft simple scenic plots or seating layouts for shows with student scenic designers (or no designer).
  • Work with Production Stage Managers in Theater and Dance to create tech and dress schedules for each production.
  • Schedule and run design and production meetings, create and distribute agendas.
  • Maintain calendars in ArtsVision for all Lewis Arts complex events.
  • Work with DoP and PSM to ensure that all rehearsals, load ins, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and events are up to date.
  • Work with Venue staff on FOH needs, maintenance and cleaning schedules.
  • Assist Director of Production with budgeting, planning and administration. Including processing payments to guest artsists, designers and stage managers.
  • Attend technical and dress rehearsals on nights and weekends.
  • Attend weekly meetings with Production Staff.
