Times Opinion is hiring an Associate Video Producer to work across Opinion Video in supporting the digital videos we produce, and for Op-Docs, the Times’s Oscar-winning home for short documentaries. You will touch all projects, across pre and post production. You will provide support to editors, producers, video journalists, cinematographers and collaborate with Audience, Copy and Fact Check desks to ensure smooth and accurate publishing on-site and off-platform. You will assist with editorial research, archive research, casting for video, location scouting and booking, shoot prep, equipment organization and support on set and location for our films videos, interactives and vertical outputs. You will work as fact checkers for our projects and have a demonstrated interest in current events and short documentaries. This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of practical video journalism or non-fiction film technical experience
  • 3+ years of experience working in high-stress breaking news situations
  • 2+ years of experience demonstrating technical fluency in video specifications including codecs, aspect ratios and audio leveling.
  • We are looking for fluency in Adobe Premiere and a keen sense of design
  • Experience managing complex schedules

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the documentary filmmaking industry.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects
  • Knowledge of the changing social media landscape as it relates to video and film.

Responsibilities

  • Support staff with video archive research, including wire services and open-source needs and requests
  • Package videos for on-site publication and on social media, including creating captions, subtitles and applying Times branding to videos.
  • Packaging Op-Docs for publication, which includes using templates and MOGRTS to bring consistent brand identity to our films and videos on- and off-site.
  • Op-Docs works with external filmmakers and films that are shot in different formats and sizes and systems. The Associate Producer will make sure all of those files are packaged for on-site and theatrical release.
  • Make Digital Cinema Package (DCP) files for all Op-Docs films for theatrical release.
  • Help organize and update film submissions, organize in-person film events and screenings and partner with external film teams on delivery specifications for publication.
  • Assist with casting for video, fact-checking, location scouting
  • Perform related work as assigned
