About The Position

Crooked Media is seeking a talented Associate Producer on the Programming department reporting to the Producer, Entertainment & Culture to support our growing slate of entertainment and culture podcasts, with a focus on guest-driven segments and short-form video clips. While the role is centered on entertainment and pop culture, the ideal candidate is also passionate about helping audiences understand news and politics, and the ways they intersect with culture. This position is responsible for research, guest coordination, pre-interview scheduling, and the preparation of production and creative development materials, and requires strong editorial judgment, thorough and organized research skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. With experience and under the direction of senior production staff, the Associate Producer may take on limited producing responsibilities as needed. This role is based out of our Los Angeles office, and follows a hybrid schedule based on the job’s needs. We are ideally looking for Los Angeles-based candidates or candidates willing to relocate before their start date.

Requirements

  • At least 1+ year of news, editorial, radio, or podcast production
  • Demonstrated experience working under tight deadlines
  • Exceptional copy editing and research skills
  • Understanding of journalism and journalistic ethics
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • A passion and day-to-day interest in comedy and entertainment/pop culture
  • Experience managing the booking process for a weekly show
  • Strong editorial judgment about the news that matters
  • A self-motivated, proactive, creative, accountable, and nice attitude
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ProTools, Adobe Audition, or other audio editing software is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support weekly and long-term editorial planning by monitoring news and pop-culture moments, and assisting with research and pitching show ideas and guests
  • Research guests, topics, and relevant background information to support interviews and show segments
  • Assist in preparing interview materials, including research packets, briefing documents, scripts, fact-checking, and pre-interview prep for guest segments
  • Help coordinate and schedule pre-interviews with guests and production staff
  • Support hosts during tracking, interviews, and other show segments, and assist in the production of guest segments with guidance from senior team members
  • Assist with booking guests, securing and logging release forms, coordinating studio time, and supporting studio and recording-day operations as needed
  • Help assemble episodes by pulling clips and images, arranging and cueing in-show clips and graphics, and maintaining accurate production notes and guest documentation
  • Support guest- and clip-focused content for video, social, and digital distribution, including assisting with editing, graphics, props, and other visual elements
  • Draft show notes and social copy, and work closely with the social media team to ensure promotional needs are met
  • Assist in coordinating with the sales team to ensure hosts have the correct ad copy for each show
  • Support publishing episodes across platforms and help ensure final delivery meets production standards
