About The Position

Methuen Public Schools enrolls approximately 7000 in a total of five schools. Methuen Public Schools has four PK-8 schools: the Comprehensive Grammar School, the Marsh Grammar School, the Tenney Grammar School, the Timony Grammar School, and one comprehensive high school: Methuen High School. We are a diverse sub-urban/urban community and designated a Gateway City. Our schools celebrate diversity and acceptance of students and families from differing backgrounds. The Associate Principal assists the Supervising Principal in collaboration with all building-level staff, in providing leadership that fosters excellence, scholarship, creativity and achievement for all students.

Requirements

  • Valid Massachusetts DESE License in the area of School Principal/Assistant Principal
  • Master’s degree in Education
  • Successful candidates should have a strong record of teaching experience, preferably in a diverse urban environment and at the elementary level.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver programming that drives improved academic performance for diverse student populations; knows effective practice for differentiating instruction and Universal Design for Learning.
  • Understanding of Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, pedagogy, and quality classroom materials including instructional technologies; experience developing and implementing curriculum for a wide variety of grade levels and subjects.
  • Knowledge of effective instruction
  • Understanding of an urban school environment and commitment to improving student achievement.
  • Genuinely believes that all students can achieve at high levels.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence and an understanding of and empathy for issues facing urban families.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Principal in the organization, supervision, discipline and administration of the school.
  • Works with the Supervising Principal in the improvement of the instructional program and inherent supervisory duties.
  • Works in the area of curriculum organization and improvement.
  • Assists the Supervising Principal in preparing the master schedule.
  • Supervises and evaluates Lower School staff
  • Identifies, implements, and evaluates content-based instruction based on the MA Curriculum Frameworks
  • Uses technology appropriately: as an organizational tool for record keeping and scheduling, as a communication tool, data collection and accountability
  • Assures presence and quality of educational practices and programs that address the needs, interests and abilities of all student
  • Holds teachers, students, and self to high standards of performance and behavior
  • Understands, uses and supports the use of intervention services for students
  • Accepts general responsibility for the supervising and for the disciplining of students in the building and on the grounds.
  • Prepares, at the direction of the Supervising Principal, any official reports which are required of him/her.
  • Assists the Supervising Principal in disseminating school information concerning school policies and practices to students, parents and teachers.
  • Participates in parent conferences, PTO events and community relations
  • Performs other duties delegated by the Supervising Principal.
