The Planner II position at Michael Baker International is a vital role within the Planning Practice, designed for an energetic and technically skilled planner eager to contribute to the Agency Staffing Group in California. This position involves moderate direct supervision and focuses on assisting public agency clients with various planning functions, including processing major land use entitlements, preparing zoning ordinances and amendments, conducting special planning studies, and performing other essential planning department tasks. The Planner II will engage with public and developer inquiries regarding zoning and planning-related information, thereby supporting the operation of clients' one-stop permit centers. In this role, the Planner II will conduct project site visits, compile necessary information for application processing, and review proposed development plans to ensure compliance with the client's General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and applicable design guidelines. Responsibilities also include processing administrative permits, preparing staff reports for Planning Commissions and City Councils, and assisting in the preparation of resolutions and ordinances related to development projects and CEQA document certification. The Planner II will be involved in public outreach, including scheduling and conducting public workshops and hearings, as well as preparing and filing required notices with relevant state and county offices. The position requires a proactive approach to conducting land use studies and maintaining the client's Municipal Code through the preparation of ordinances and amendments. The Planner II will work closely with the Community Development/Planning Director or City Manager to ensure all planning functions are executed effectively and efficiently, contributing to the overall goal of improving communities and creating sustainable, equitable, and attractive places.
