The Building & Safety Division's primary goal is to ensure the safety, health and general welfare of the people who live, work and visit our city. The Division accomplishes this through the enforcement of the design standards found in the West Hollywood Building Code. The Code includes building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and certain municipal codes as adopted by the City Council. The Division is also responsible for the enforcement of the California State accessibility regulations, energy conservation, and CalGreen regulations. The Division provides services to our community, including permitting, plan check, and inspection services. These services are provided directly to the community using various methods, including a public and virtual counter, informational webpages, conference calls, and field site visits. The Associate Plan Check Engineer reviews architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical plans for residential and commercial projects to ensure compliance with building codes, City ordinances, and state/federal regulations. This position provides plan check services both in-person and virtually, assists customers with code requirements, resolves technical issues with design professionals and City departments, and meets established review deadlines. The ideal candidate for this position: Has strong technical proficiency in reviewing architectural and structural plans with a solid understanding of building codes and regulatory compliance. Demonstrates excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to explain technical requirements clearly to design professionals, contractors, and the public. Is detail oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple plan reviews, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy. Is a collaborative team player who works effectively across departments and maintains positive working relationships.
