About The Position

The Surgical unit has 41 private rooms and is located on the third floor. This unit cares for patients who are above 17 years of age who require medical/surgical nursing care. The primary population served is surgical to include but not limited to: orthopedics, bariatrics, vascular, neurology and general surgery. This unit also serves general medical patients with diagnosis including but not limited to: sepsis, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, skin and wound conditions and infections. Modified primary nursing is the care delivery model utilized and includes the following team members: Registered Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Case Managers, Discharge Planners, Social Workers, and Unit Secretary. The team is also supported by a unit-based Pharmacist, Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapist, and a Unit-based Educator. The associate nurse manager in collaboration with the nurse manager leads front line nursing staff in the delivery of patient care. The associate nurse manager coaches and guides nursing staff in the implementation of action plans to achieve organizational goals of quality, efficiency, and excellence in practice.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience in a surgical or medical-surgical nursing environment
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of nursing standards of practice and regulatory standards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with budget management
  • Certification in nursing leadership or management
  • Familiarity with evidence-based nursing practices

Responsibilities

  • Adoption of innovative nursing practices based on evidence
  • Effective two-way communication and problem solving at the unit and organizational level
  • Collaborates with the nurse manager to complete the recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention of nursing staff
  • Ensure nursing staff compliance with professional development, adherence to nursing standards of practice, regulatory standards, ANA Code of Ethics, peer reviews, organizational and unit policies, mandatory education, infection control practice, scheduling processes and procedures, and I CARE standards of behavior
  • Collaborates with the nurse manager in budget development, utilization, evaluation, and adjustment
  • Maintenance of a healthy work environment utilizing the principles of just culture which neither holds the nurse accountable for system failures nor tolerates reckless behavior
  • Provides input into the evaluation of nursing staff
