Job Summary This is the entry level into the Nuclear Chemistry Technician series.  Incumbents will participate in classroom and practical training, maintaining acceptable academic standards throughout the program.  Employees new to the role  will participate in training consisting of:  station orientation, chemical sampling procedures, gas and water testing methods, and identification and review of periodic test. Will also learn basic chemistry fundamentals, appropriate use of human performance tools and basic laboratory practices such as pH, conductivity and balance operation. Collect chemical samples from various plant systems. Perform gas and water tests in conjunction with the training program. Perform basic chemical tests and analyses in conjunction with the training program.  As training program progresses, responsible for performing tasks to determine the presence and activity levels of radiation and various gases, acids, bases, salts and metals. The incumbent will work independently in those areas trained and qualified. Collect chemical samples from various plant systems. Perform gas and water tests in conjunction with the training program. Perform basic chemical tests and analyses in conjunction with the training program.  Later in the training program, responsible for collection of samples from primary and secondary plant system. Performs tests on samples to determine the presence and activity levels of radiation and various gases, acids, and metals to ensure proper chemistry is maintained to prevent corrosion of plant systems and technical specification violations. Collect water samples from various plant systems, including those in high radiation areas, for necessary analyses. Operate and maintain the on-line chemical monitoring system. Add chemicals to plant systems in order to maintain plant system integrity. Track and enter data analysis information into the mainframe computer. Maintain and calibrate data recording devices.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years directly related experience.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in fundamental elements of science and mathematics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using oral and written skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and within the framework of a team.
  • Ability to work under adverse environmental conditions i.e. high temperatures.
  • ORUnited States Navy Engineering Laboratory Technician
  • Requires one year each of college level mathematics (pre-calculus), chemistry, and physics.
  • Must be able to fulfill duties as directed for Station Emergency Plan to include obtaining and maintaining required ERO/SERO qualifications, participating in ERO/SERO exercises and drills, and verifying availability through response to ERO/SERO call-in drills.
  • Must obtain and maintain required ERO/SERO qualifications.
  • ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.5.3.1, 4.5.3.2 and 4.5.3.3. Education Requirements: HS Diploma, Minimum Experience for the job: Related experience which shall include 2 years; Nuclear Power Plant Experience 1 year.
