About The Position

The Associate Mental Health Counselor at SCAD is responsible for providing mental health support to students through outreach programming, crisis intervention, and clinical supervision of trainees. This role involves developing psychoeducational programs, documenting student interactions, and participating in departmental initiatives to improve performance. The counselor will also engage in case conferences and maintain a personal development schedule.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or clinical licensure in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Licensed in a mental health or counseling field or able to obtain a license within two to four years.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in counseling and disability services or higher education.

  • Experience coordinating prevention programs in residence halls.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach programming and attend weekly case conferences.
  • Consult with various departments as needed.
  • Provide clinical supervision to department trainees or interns.
  • Develop and present psychoeducational programs as assigned.
  • Document contact with students in a timely manner in the computerized documentation system.
  • Provide crisis intervention for students, including answering phone calls.
  • Participate in quarterly student orientations.
  • Maintain a current personal schedule and inform supervisor of personal staff development needs.
  • Participate in department performance improvement initiatives and prepare own PRs for supervisor approval.
