About The Position

The medical dosimetrist is responsible for the "radiation dose distributions and dose calculations" used in the radiation therapy treatment plan. The Associate Dosimetrist must have thorough knowledge in the areas of external beam radiation therapy treatment. The dosimetrist helps delineate the delivery of the radiation in precise doses necessary to treat the targeted area without harming healthy tissue and organs near the tumor. Designing the treatment plan for the cancer patient is a key responsibility of the dosimetrist. The Associate Medical Dosimetrist works under the supervision of the Chief Medical Dosimetrist and Chief Medical Physicist.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical dosimetry program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Science/Physics from an accredited college or university.
  • Eligible to take MDCB exam.
  • Must pass the MDCB board exam within 24 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Radiation Therapy Technology in related field of study from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in construction of bite blocks, alpha-cradles, or other immobilizers, compensating filters, individual shields, and blocks, as required.
  • Collects relevant patient data for treatment planning computer entry.
  • Provides set-up consultation in CT-Simulation and treatment machine.
  • Performs manual and computer dose calculations in an efficient manner.
  • Efficient in 2D, 3D and IMRT treatment planning and in generating IMRT QA plans.
  • Accurately enters treatment information into electronic medical record.
  • Participates in weekly chart rounds.
  • Assists physics staff with in vivo dosimetry measurements.
  • Communicates / updates physician and physicist throughout planning process.
  • Participates in quality assurance and / or quality management programs, as needed.
  • Promotes team approach when interacting with other staff members.
  • Assists physicists with routine clinical tasks, as required.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.
