About The Position

The Associate Medical Director provides medical oversight and support for hospice programs, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards. This part‑time role (approximately 40 hours per month) focuses on clinical guidance, staff support, program development, and occasional visits to patients’ homes as needed .

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical expertise and consultation to hospice staff regarding patient care, symptom management, and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides) to develop and review individualized care plans.
  • Participate in patient admissions decisions, ensuring eligibility criteria are met and appropriate levels of care are provided.
  • Review and approve plans of care, certifications of terminal illness, and recertifications as required by Medicare and regulatory guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource for complex clinical cases, offering guidance on pain and symptom management.
  • Conduct home visits to hospice patients as needed to support clinical assessment, care planning, and symptom management.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, including chart reviews, compliance audits, and performance monitoring.
  • Provide education and mentorship to hospice staff on clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, and ethical considerations.
  • Represent the hospice program in community outreach, physician relations, and professional development activities as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and organizational policies governing hospice care.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director to maintain continuity of medical oversight and coverage.
