Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering and 0-2 years of prior related experience and/or training in mechanical engineering.
  • Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Practical experience with 3-D CAD (Solidworks preferred) and analysis software tools (ANSYS).
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Practical experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with additive manufacturing materials and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assists lead mechanical engineers in design/analysis to support mechanical layout of power equipment and other Navy based electronic systems.
  • Creates equipment layouts that satisfy system requirements and account for tradeoffs among thermal, mass properties, structural, and manufacturing considerations.
  • Applies the Solidworks 3D CAD system to the creation of mechanical layouts and drawings.
  • Develops detailed fabrication and assembly drawings and performs tolerances analysis.
  • Designs interconnecting brackets and support structure between components and subsystems.
  • Assists the lead mechanical engineer in cost estimates and components selection.
  • Conducts simpler thermal and structural analyses under the guidance of lead mechanical engineers.
  • Provides engineering support to system integration efforts, including production support.
  • Coordinates and executes engineering design changes and performs some checking work.
  • Uses established and well defined engineering procedures.
