The Associate Manager position in the Town Garage is a supervisory role within the Streets Services Division of the Department of Public Works. This role involves overseeing the construction, repair, and maintenance of Town infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and drainage systems. The Associate Manager is responsible for organizing work, managing crews, and ensuring the delivery of quality services to the community while developing the potential of each employee.

  • Assist in supervising the Streets Services Division of the Department of Public Works.
  • Plan and organize daily, bi-weekly, and monthly work schedules according to standard procedures and work orders.
  • Assign daily work to maintenance crews and equipment operators, setting priorities and reviewing work in progress.
  • Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis, providing on-site supervision for emergency work.
  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, or disciplinary measures.
  • Train new workers in job tasks, equipment use, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain records of work, time, and materials, and evaluate work methods for improvements.
  • Plan snow removal operations, including establishing plow routes and priorities.
  • Prepare statistical and narrative reports for the Superintendent of Streets.
  • Associates degree in engineering science or business administration, or four years of experience in road construction and repair work with supervisory experience.
  • Four years of heavy civil construction experience, including bridge work, drainage, or utility installation.
  • Considerable knowledge of road infrastructure maintenance and construction practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of materials, supplies, and equipment used in road maintenance and construction projects.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions in public works maintenance and repair projects.
  • Knowledge of modern supervisory practices.
  • Additional educational merits outside of the construction industry that align with the division's strategic plan.
