About The Position

The Aerojet Rocketdyne Segment of L3Haris is seeking an Assocaite Manager, Manufacturing Engineering ; to work at our new state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) South in Huntsville, AL , which is our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of composite rocket motor hardware. The Associate Manager, Manufacturing Engineering leads, directs, and reviews the work of professionals or lower-level supervisors. They communicate within and outside of own function to explain and gain cooperation on policies and practices. They make moderate to substantial improvements to processes, systems, and solutions. They plan and establish goals and objectives for a team with direct impact on the short-term operational results for the department. This role requires practical knowledge in leading/managing projects, processes, and employees and has strong knowledge within professional discipline. This is a dynamic team that requires motivated, self-starting individuals with hands-on experience. Manufacturing Engineering leaders are expected to ensure Manufacturing Engineers are taking full ownership of their processes and are always pursuing continuous improvement. They must be able to follow company procedures and requirements for the manufacture of advanced, man-rated, and high value aerospace hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant engineering experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related engineering experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related engineering experience.
  • 2+ years people leadership experience.

  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
  • Lean Six Sigm certificaton and working experience.

  • Ability to effectively handle disagreements and help teams find consensus.
  • Ability to motivate and engage personnel in a productive manner.
  • Firsthand experience onboarding new product lines.
  • Knowledge of composite materials, including the behavior of different fibers (carbon, glass, aramid) and resin systems.
  • Knowledge of operation of robots, presses, ovens, winders, CNC machines, cutting tables and/or autoclaves.
  • Strong GD&T background supporting part validation.
  • Adaptable to a changing work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the team during investigations into nonconforming hardware and hold engineers accountable for implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Manage large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization.
  • Prepare and oversee budgets for the group.
  • Manage team of Manufacturing Engineers in training, problem solving, and projects.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop Manufacturing Engineers to improve performance.
  • Establish productivity and development goals in support of each engineer’s Individual Development Plan (IDP).
  • Seek out new systems, concepts, or technologies for implementation at AMF South.
  • Lead the team in process / work instruction reviews to ensure first-time-quality is achieved when processes transition to production.
  • Champion the implementation and continuous utilization of PFMEAs.
  • Ensure the ME team maintains a safety-first culture through leading by example.
  • Occasional off-shift and weekend work required to support manufacturing schedules.
  • Up to 5% business travel to support suppliers or other manufacturing sites, however, at times of high demand, more travel may be necessary.
  • Ability to obtain US Security Clearance.
