About The Position

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated (Associate) Manufacturing Engineer to commission, troubleshoot and ramp automation equipment. The engineer also refine and innovate processes. This role is with the Cell Manufacturing Engineering, Tabless - “Welder” team. This engineer will lead the early lifecycle of highly complex and hi-volume manufacturing equipment: from power-On to validation, and will spend a significant portion of his/her time on the production floor. The equipment will include diverse processes such as laser welding, hi-speed pick and place, automated transport, computer vision, insertions and pressing, etc. to name a few. Other responsibilities would include supporting process refinements and development trials, writing procedures, solving systematic issues thru redesigns, and interfacing with vendors. The engineer will also closely work and cross-coordinate with Tesla's internal Production Engineering, Maintenance, Quality Engineering, NPI and Project Management teams. This individual will be based in GigaTexas, Tesla's HQ in Austin, TX.

Requirements

  • Degree or relevant experience in Manufacturing/ Mechanical/ Mechatronics Engineering; Industrial or Chemical Engineering with the right experience are also welcome
  • Exposure to hi-volume manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience: electromechanical prototyping, or troubleshooting
  • Experience with data analysis, and knowledge of quality concepts (SPC, capability)
  • CAD software and mechanical design know-how, with GD&T basics
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits, and ability to read schematics

Responsibilities

  • Commission, validate with statistics, and ramp up hi-volume automation equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment and tune processes as necessary; involves running equipment
  • Perform experiments to iterate through new process or to improve existing processes
  • Analyze and visualize production and trial data; present conclusions to cross-functional teams
  • Generate equipment specifications, manufacturing instructions, and other documentation
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Quality and NPI teams on yield, quality and machine availability
  • Communicate and coordinate installations and upgrades with vendors and internal suppliers
