About The Position

The Associate, Investment Banking, Leveraged Finance / Non-Investment Grade Finance will be responsible for executing on a broad range of non-investment grade financing transactions. This includes preparing client presentations and financial modeling, working closely with Associates/Associate Directors to support Directors/MDs in managing client relationships, and ensuring compliance with governing regulations and internal policies. The role is part of a leading Canadian Capital Markets and Investment Banking business with a strong U.S. presence, providing a full range of investment banking, credit, and risk management products and services.

Requirements

  • 1+ years' work experience in Leveraged Finance, financial sponsors, or other industry coverage groups.
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology.
  • Experience with commitment letters, fee letters, engagement letters, credit agreements, and offering memoranda.
  • Strong financial modelling skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of dynamics of institutional term loan and high yield markets in the US.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent command of industry standard market data sources, such as Credit Sights, LCD News, Bloomberg.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts and enhance banking skillset.
  • Obtain and maintain required FINRA registration and licensing appropriate to your functions and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a client centric focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships.
  • Coordinate with other groups within GBM, such as banking coverage, credit/risk, underwriting/execution, and sales & trading.
  • Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with legal counsel, external parties, and clients.
  • Evaluate and analyze the debt financing needs of corporate and sponsor-backed clients.
  • Track market conditions, focusing on leveraged credit markets, and create client-friendly materials.
  • Evaluate peer capital structures and financings to identify opportunities with Scotiabank clients.
  • Oversee the underwriting and approval process for corporate and sponsor-backed financings.
  • Prepare questions and drive due diligence sessions to evaluate credit risk of proposed transactions.
  • Oversee transaction structuring and execution efforts with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Review financing documents and summarize key terms and covenants.
  • Perform comprehensive financial statement analysis and maintain models, focusing on LBO cash flow modeling.
  • Drive the creation of high-quality presentation materials to support client discussions.
