About The Position

Under the direction of the Chief Legal Officer, the Associate In-House Counsel will assist in handling in-house litigation, provide legal advice to various business units, and will be assigned other projects as needed.

Requirements

Juris Doctorate and admission to the California State Bar required, however recent graduates awaiting California Bar Exam results will be considered.
0 - 3 years of law firm or in-house litigation experience required.
Strong legal writing and research skills using a variety of sources.
Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with coworkers in a professional, tactful, and sensitive manner.
The ability to effectively communicate with outside counsel and opposing counsel, and to negotiate the resolution of issues.

Nice To Haves

Experience in consumer finance law is a plus.
Experience in direct commercial lending or real estate is a plus.

Responsibilities

Assist in handling in-house litigation from inception to final resolution, including trial.
Draft demand letters, responses to demands, discovery, pleadings, and law & motion.
Make court appearances as needed.
Assist the Chief Legal Officer with litigation strategy and resolution of claims; negotiate and draft settlement agreements.
Coordinate and advise outside counsel on pending litigation matters.
Work with business units to find creative solutions for legal issues.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
