The Communications Associate II will play a crucial role in marketing Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) by creating engaging and clear website content. This position involves collaboration with various school and department staff to gather and update content across over 150 MPS school and district websites, newsletters, and other communication platforms. The role also includes acting as a liaison to ensure accuracy and consistency in communications across the district.

  • Writes compelling website content that is SEO friendly and optimized for conversion.
  • Develops, writes, and produces engaging content for newsletters, websites, blogs, and other platforms, designed to engage stakeholders.
  • Works with School and District Webmasters to develop a website content calendar and implementation plan.
  • Schedules and attends meetings with stakeholders to learn about schools, programs, and district initiatives for content development purposes.
  • Utilizes an active, engaging, and storytelling writing style that motivates the reader to action.
  • Supports the creation of marketing and advertising campaigns by writing, revising, and editing copy.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all MPS stakeholders.
  • Balances multiple projects and tasks within a fast-paced environment.
  • Supports district offices and departments by setting up, scheduling, sending emails, and recording the results.
  • Manages, edits, and writes district emails for external audiences.
  • Writes and/or proofreads emails for clarity, grammar, and spelling.
  • Ensures messages are sent in proper form and template.
  • Collaborates with the Communication & Marketing team on brainstorming creative strategies for messaging and storytelling ideas.
  • Participates in all-staff, team, and other internal meetings as requested.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with keyword search and SEO copywriting best practices.
  • Attends District meetings to stay up-to-date on District policy and happenings.
  • Serves as an outstanding team player who can troubleshoot issues, offer ideas and support, and help others succeed.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and content creation.
  • Experience with SEO copywriting best practices.
  • Familiarity with keyword search.
  • Salary range of $62,689.53 - $90,032.77
  • Health and safety priority with COVID-19 vaccination requirement for employees.
