About the position

The primary functions of the ED Associate are to welcome patients as they enter the ED, determine the nature of the visit, advise them of next steps, and obtain all demographic and insurance information. This position must ensure accurate and timely medical record completion in accordance with Joint Commission standards, Department of Health (DOH) rules and regulations, and medical staff bylaws. This position requires frequent contact with patients, medical staff, third party payers and community agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients as they enter the ED.
  • Determine the nature of the visit.
  • Advise patients of next steps.
  • Obtain all demographic and insurance information.
  • Ensure accurate and timely medical record completion in accordance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Health (DOH) rules and regulations.
  • Maintain adherence to medical staff bylaws.
  • Engage in frequent contact with patients, medical staff, third party payers, and community agencies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English required.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  • At least one year of medical office experience with frequent customer interaction required.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous patient registration or patient accounting experience preferred.
