About The Position

Bristol Bay Government Services Group (BBGSG) is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join our team in San Antonio, TX. The Associate General counsel will directly support the General Counsel (GC)/Chief Legal Officer (CLO) who is the top legal authority within BBGSG. This role is crucial in helping the organization navigate legal complexities and making informed decisions that align with the law, while supporting BBGSG’s strategic objectives. Must have the right combination of experience and expertise, strong leadership and management skills, a well-rounded as well as a specialist understanding of the law, and a strong legal network. Associate General Counsel roles and responsibilities key duties include: Legal advice: Provides constructive legal counsel to the BBGSG’s' executives, management and subsidiary businesses on various legal issues affecting the organization. Contract negotiation: Significant participation in the drafting, review, and/or negotiation of contracts and agreements entered into by BBGSG and it’s subsidiaries, including commercial and US government contracts. Compliance / Risk management: Assist the GC/CLO and Director of Compliance to ensure that BBGSG complies with relevant laws and regulations in its operations and business activities. Works to identify and manage legal risks that BBGSG and it’s subsidiaries may face and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks. Litigation management: Under the direction of the GC/CLO, oversees legal disputes and coordinating with internal/external law firms when necessary to handle litigation matters. Corporate governance: Advises on matters related to corporate governance and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Employee Relations: Provides legal guidance on a myriad of employment matters, including employee relations and discipline. Will also assist HR and business personnel in dealing with unions and Collective Bargaining Agreements. Broad legal knowledge and expertise: Strategic Thinking: Have the capacity to think strategically and provide legal advice that supports the long-term goals and objectives of the organization. Ability to anticipate legal issues and provide proactive solutions. Have a strong foundation in legal principles and knowledge across various areas of law, including corporate law, contract law, employment law, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property. Commercial Acumen: Has the ability to understand the organization’s business objectives and align legal strategies with overall business goals. This includes a keen understanding of the industry in which the organization operates. Risk Management / Regulatory Compliance: Proficiency in assessing and managing legal risks. This involves identifying potential legal challenges and developing strategies to mitigate or address them. Deep knowledge of relevant laws and regulations applicable to the organization’s industry, and the ability to ensure compliance with these legal requirements. Communication Skills: Possess strong written and verbal communication skills that enables the candidate to communicate effectively with BBGSG executives, staff, subsidiary businesses and external stakeholders. Negotiation and Contract Drafting: The ability to negotiate effectively and draft contracts that protect BBGSG’s interests while facilitating business transactions. Ethical Judgement: Unquestionable integrity and a commitment to ethical conduct. Problem-Solving: Possess strong problem-solving skills to address legal challenges creatively and find practical solutions. The candidate should be adept at analyzing complex issues and proposing viable options. Global Perspective: Must understand the legal nuances of different jurisdictions and how to navigate legal issues on a global scale. Financial Literacy: Good understanding of financial principles and the ability to assess the financial implications of legal decisions and strategies. Decision-Making: The capacity to make informed and timely decisions, often under pressure. Must assess risks and benefits to guide the organization in making sound legal choices.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate Degree required
  • 7+ years experience practicing as an in-house counsel, member of a law firm, member of the Judge Advocate General Corps or as an agency attorney for a US government agency.
  • Strong US government contracting experience
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas, Alabama or Georgia or the ability to secure corporate counsel status

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Military experience preferred
