About The Position

In this position, you will be responsible for providing legal counsel to key leadership within Melaleuca by identifying and analyzing legal issues and communicating effective legal advice in the areas of Privacy, Litigation, and Transactional law. The AGC proactively engages with business clients to better understand Melaleuca’s strategic and operational objectives; engages and collaborates with internal partners within all assigned departments and the General Counsel; works independently on matters of significance to the organization; and has in-depth experienced knowledge and the proven track record to lead efforts to resolve sophisticated issues. This role supervises one other attorney.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience as a lawyer at a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Excellent time management, analysis, and advising skills;
  • Ability to succinctly summarize recommendations and tailor communications by audience;
  • Experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts;
  • Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice to internal stakeholders on contractual, regulatory, and general corporate legal matters;
  • Ability to identify and assess legal risks, propose mitigation strategies, and support cross-functional teams in resolving legal issues efficiently;

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with existing and emerging technology and e-commerce preferred (but not required); and
  • Knowledge of privacy laws and experience identifying, analyzing and advising on privacy risk preferred (but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Providing clear, practical, and actionable privacy advice to enable business strategies and efforts across the enterprise;
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with teams and stakeholders throughout the enterprise;
  • Partnering with and becoming a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the enterprise, including with senior leaders within and outside of the Legal Department;
  • Identifying and leading existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
  • Ensuring risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, supervised, and controlled.
  • Following written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities;
  • Independently providing legal counsel to senior leadership to support business objectives and lead regulatory, compliance and litigation risk to Melaleuca;
  • Leading sophisticated legal assignments with a high level of business impact and delivers appropriate solutions;
  • Effectively communicating with partners and varying levels of leadership in both verbal and written forms;
  • Producing clear and concise legal positions involving highly complex issues;
  • Proactively and analyzes changes in laws, regulations and industry and advises appropriate organizational leadership of such changes in a timely manner;
  • Anticipating potential or future legal and operational issues that present a risk to the organization and proactively engages with others to identify potential solutions;
  • Providing leadership through cross-functional projects that have a material impact to Melaleuca;
  • Effectively leading outside counsel to acquire legal advice.
  • Coordinating with the General Counsel on periodic reporting on results, budgets, forecasts, exposure analysis and strategies to the Management Team, as well as evaluating legal strategies, expenses and reserves with the Company’s independent auditors, risk managers and business unit leaders; and
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts to memorialize these deals.
