Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in general litigation, including at least three (3) years of in-house experience, with automotive industry experience preferred.
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing of the relevant state bar.
  • Demonstrated track record of working with, influencing, and providing legal and strategic advice to executives and members of senior management.
  • Strategic thinking with the capacity to make sound decisions and give business and legal advice on novel and complex legal issues, at times in a compressed time frame with limited information.
  • Experience selecting and managing outside counsel and other legal services resources and providers.
  • Ability to set priorities and effectively, efficiently, and calmly manage multiple time-sensitive projects and deadlines.
  • Practical and business-minded with an ability to present advice pragmatically.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally across multiple responsibilities and functions simultaneously in a fast-paced, ever-changing and challenging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization’s general litigation docket and activities, including overseeing outside counsel, motions and pleadings, deposition prep, litigation holds, legal notices, subpoenas and e-discovery.
  • Brief and provide legal advice to senior management on legal demands, settlement negotiations, threatened and ongoing litigation, and investigations.
  • Work closely with the General Counsel, other members of the Legal Team and members of company senior leadership to identify corporate, commercial and operational risks of the organization.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive litigation risk management plan and organizational litigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement litigation risk management training for senior management and other relevant team members.
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with internal clients and stakeholders, including Commercial Operations, Production, Purchasing, and Finance.
  • Keep abreast of litigation and risk management best practices, including best-in-class technologies, processes and procedures.
  • Monitor, interpret and provide guidance on federal and state court cases, decisions, and laws and regulations that may impact the organization and its business and operations.
